Cornhole Championship Held in Terry

Forty-Eight Teams, in front of approximately 400 spectators vied for the Montana State Cornhole Doubles Championship Saturday at Murn Park in Terry, Montana. After five hours of play the team of Darwin Strobel of Fallon, Montana and Dan Thomas of Hobson, Montana defeated Larry and Stephanie Keltner of Terry for the Championship. Strobel and Thomas won five games on the way to the Championship including a last toss, one point win over Team Thunder of Terry, Montana in the third round. The Keltner team advanced to the finals after a first round bye and then winning four very close games including a very hard fought semi-final win over the team of Shayne Jonas of Miles City and Nathan Christofferson of Terry. Third Place was captured by the Terry team of Jim and Cody Ross, with Fourth place going to the Terry team of Cody Leatherman and Fabian Pisk. In State Participants from Helena, Manhattan, Miles City, Fallon, Hobson, Bozeman, Richey, and out of state teams from Washington, Texas, North and South Dakota as well as from Terry made up the 48 teams. The Second Annual Montana State Cornhole Doubles Championship is scheduled for July 28, 2007. The tournament will consist of the top 64 teams from across Montana and the upper Northwest. Brockway Dairy Day is over for another year and even though the weather was hot, a good turnout of folks took in the rodeo and weekend dances. The newly acquired bleachers made for some mighty fine seating for rodeo fans. Special recognition and appreciation should be given to all those hard working volunteers who helped get things ready for Brockway’s big day as well as those who help during the rodeo taking tickets, selling beverages, working behind the chutes and dealing with the paperwork. The Brockway-Terry highway is in the process of being paved! After all these years of waiting for this 45 miles stretch of road to be completed, it is finally a reality. Some folks wondered if they would live long enough to see the day! Reportedly it is a very nice road and sure to have lots more people traveling that way. The Brockway community extends its sympathy to the family of Stanley Robbins. Services for Mr. Robbins were held Thursday in Circle with interment in the Brockway Cemetery. The hot weather has almost become intolerable, but cooler temperatures are sure to be coming soon! It makes for good combining weather and area farmers are busy cutting their crops. Some parts of the county received quite a bit more rainfall this summer than most, so the yields, weights and proteins are fluctuating. Circle was the place to be Friday as the Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture sponsored the annual Christmas in July festivities. Many enjoyed the free hotdogs and lemonade at the Credit Union and took in the business scavenger hunt, farmers market and craft sale. Entertaining later in the day were a group of youngsters under the direction of Laurie Massar, Shoni Schipman, and Tina and Ramsey Bailey. The street dance featured some good dancing music by the ‘Buds of the Weiser’. Kurt and Tish Guldborg, Maya and Laney thoroughly enjoyed the Champions on Ice Show at Metra in Billings last week. It was a very impressive show and wonderful performances by former Olympians. Enjoying a visit to Circle and taking in the Dairy Day Rodeo were Josh and Kerry Eissinger and daughter Cheyenne of Harlowtown. The rodeo gave them the opportunity to visit with friends Kelly and Amber Grist who were also here visiting. Jess Eissinger was also home for Dairy Day weekend and took in the festivities. She and her family also enjoyed a day at Fort Peck Lake while she was home from Missoula. Recently Matt Kleinsasser spent several days helping Brad Kountz and Rob Bailey with harvest and haying chores. Kaylee Kountz came home for Brockway Dairy Day weekend. While working a pharmacy rotation in Bozeman, she enjoyed staying with Mark and Patti Soares while on assignment. Rocky Boy is her next scheduled rotation and she will be staying with Bill and Wendy Kleinssasser in Big Sandy. It was off to Great Falls for Arne and Shelly Sutton, Andrea and Lynae as they helped Barbara Sutton celebrate her birthday on the 27th. They also brought Molly and Virginia Sutton with them as the girls had spent the past few weeks in Circle visiting. Brent Sutton of Yakima met them in Great Falls and Shelli Hilde, Austin and Emily of Kalispell as well as Jeff and Sherri Walla, Jerod and Katie also were there for Barb=s birthday. The young gals and their mothers enjoyed the Carrie Underwood concert at the fair while they were in Great Falls. Spending a few days with Wayne and Margi French are grandchildren Ashlee and Adynn Mickolio of Glasgow.

Udderly Divine Bovines to be Featured Fair Entertainment

The Udderly Divine Bovines were discovered by their rancher who heard them calling to their calves in perfect harmony. The rancher chose to take them to Nashville instead of to market, where they became famous when they recorded songs which told about their life on a Montana cattle ranch.

Actually, this purely fictitious group exists only in the imagination of Judy Williams who lives with her husband, Tom, on their ranch near Radersburg, Montana, where they raise cattle and hay. Judy sings a number of hilarious “Cow Tunes” that are parodies of popular songs.

Judy will be performing live in Circle on Thursday, August 17, at 8:00 PM at the McCone County Fair Grounds. Her show will follow the Open Mutt Show, scheduled for 6:30 PM that evening. Also, prior to the Mutt Show, the McCone 4-H Council will be serving a pancake supper starting at 5:00 PM.

The McCone County Fair Board would like to welcome everyone to showcase his or her talents and projects at this year’s fair. Bring those crops, grains, garden produce, flowers, arts and crafts, photography, as well as those food and sewing projects.

Fair books can be picked up at the Extension office. 4-H entries are due August 7 and the open class entry forms are due into the Extension Office by August 11. All entry tags will be printed and the exhibitor may pick them up at their convenience.
